(exechange) — Bentonville, Arkansas, August 17, 2017 — Hank Henderson, chief executive of America’s Car-Mart, leaves. His departure is made public at an early stage. As announced by America’s Car-Mart, Inc. in a news release on Thursday, August 17, 2017, William H. (Hank) Henderson leaves the post as Chief Executive Officer at the sales financing company in a surprising move after around ten years on the job, effective December 31, 2017.

It is the end of an era.

Among the 3,000 largest publicly held companies incorporated in the U.S. based on market capitalization, only 36 percent of the CEOs who departed over the past twelve months left after more than ten years. Overall, the average tenure of those who left was 8.8 years, according to data compiled by exechange.

Henderson’s duties are taken over by Jeff Williams, currently President at America’s Car-Mart, Inc.

“The time is right”

The management change is explained as follows. Henderson said: “We have a great team in place and the time is right for me to take a step back from the day-to-day operations.”

Henderson will remain as CEO Emeritus at America’s Car-Mart

“I will be moving from CEO to CEO Emeritus and Board Member,” Henderson said.

“Retiring”

Henderson said: “Effective December 31, 2017 I will be retiring as CEO.”

Share price decline

The change follows a decline in the share price of America’s Car-Mart, Inc. since March 2015.

Henderson has also served as the Company’s Chief Executive Officer since October 2007 and as the Company’s President from May 2002 to March 2016.

From 1999 until May 2002, Henderson served as Chief Operating Officer of the Company’s wholly owned operating subsidiary.

From 1992 until 1998, Henderson served as General Manager of the Company’s wholly owned operating subsidiary.

From 1987 until 1992, Henderson primarily held positions of District Manager and Regional Manager of the Company’s wholly owned operating subsidiary.
