As announced by Bumble Inc. in a news release and in a regulatory filing published on Monday, November 6, 2023, Whitney Wolfe Herd leaves her post as chief executive officer at the dating app operator, after about four years in the role, effective January 2, 2024.

Generally speaking, it raises questions when a CEO leaves her post at short notice.

Whitney Wolfe Herd’s duties as CEO will be taken over by Lidiane Jones, currently Chief Executive Officer at Slack Technologies.

The fact that Whitney Wolfe Herd’s successor is brought in from outside suggests that the board may seek to stimulate change with fresh ideas and new initiatives.

Bumble stated: “Following a comprehensive search process, Lidiane Jones, who currently serves as Chief Executive Officer at Slack, a Salesforce (NYSE: CRM) company, will succeed Whitney Wolfe Herd as Chief Executive Officer, effective January 2, 2024. Wolfe Herd will transition to the Executive Chair role at that time.”

Bumble said: “Whitney Wolfe Herd, the Company’s Founder and Chief Executive Officer, will become the Executive Chair of the Board and no longer serve in the capacity of Chief Executive Officer.”

Share price decline since November 2022

The announcement follows a decline in Bumble Inc.’s share price of 46% since November 2022.
