(exechange) — Bethesda, Maryland, November 14, 2022 — John Keppler, chief executive of Enviva, leaves his position. As announced by Enviva Inc. in a news release and in a regulatory filing published on Monday, November 14, 2022, John K. Keppler leaves his post as chief executive officer at the producer of industrial wood pellets, after nine years in the role, effective immediately.

John Keppler’s duties as CEO will be taken over by Thomas Meth, most recently President at Enviva Inc.

Health reasons

John Keppler’s departure from the CEO post is explained as follows. Enviva said: “John Keppler, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, is expected to assume the role of Executive Chairman, consistent with the succession plan developed by the Board. Prior to doing so, Mr. Keppler will be stepping down from his responsibilities to pursue medical and surgical treatment to address a cardiac valve issue. The Company expects Mr. Keppler, who co-founded Enviva in 2004 with Mr. Meth, to remain available to the Company, and to return in the active Executive Chairman role early in 2023.”

Enviva further said: “John Keppler, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, has stepped down from his responsibilities to pursue medical and surgical treatment to address a cardiac valve issue, effective November 14, 2022.”

Share price decline since November 2021

The announcement follows a decline in Enviva Inc.’s share price of 12% since November 2021.

In the position of CEO since 2013

John Keppler became CEO of the Company in 2013.

Keppler joined the board of directors as Chairman and began serving as President and Chief Executive Officer of the general partner of Enviva Partners, LP in November 2013.

He has continued to serve as Chairman of the board of directors, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Enviva Inc.

Keppler co-founded Intrinergy, the predecessor to the Company’s former sponsor, in 2004.

From 2002 to 2004, Keppler was the Director of Corporate Strategy in the Office of the Vice Chairman with America Online and, prior to that, he was Senior Manager, Business Affairs and Development with America Online from 2001 to 2002.

Keppler holds a B.A. in political economy from the University of California, Berkeley, as well as an MBA from The Darden Graduate School of Business Administration at The University of Virginia.
