(exechange) — San Francisco, California, June 21, 2022 — This news came shortly after Juneteenth. Dan Springer, chief executive of DocuSign, leaves. As announced by DocuSign Inc. in a news release on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, Daniel D. (Dan) Springer leaves his post as chief executive officer at the e-signature software company, after about five and a half years in the role, effective immediately.

DocuSign will undertake a search for a successor.

Dan Springer’s duties as CEO will be taken over temporarily by Mary Agnes (Maggie) Wilderotter, most recently Chairman of the Board at DocuSign Inc., as interim Chief Executive Officer.

“Drive improved execution”

DocuSign did not give an explicit reason for Dan Springer’s departure from the CEO post. DocuSign said: “Dan Springer has agreed to step aside as Chief Executive Officer. Effective immediately, Chairman of the Board Mary Agnes “Maggie” Wilderotter is appointed interim CEO to help the senior executive team drive improved execution in all phases of the company’s business.”

Precise information regarding Dan Springer’s future plans was not immediately available.

Share price decline since June 2021

The announcement follows a decline in DocuSign Inc.’s share price of 70% since June 2021.

Dan Springer became CEO of the Company in 2017.

Daniel D. Springer has served as the Company’s Chief Executive Officer, President and member of the Board since January 2017.

From May 2015 to January 2017, Springer served as an Operating Partner at Advent International Corp., a private equity investment firm.

Prior to Advent International Corp., Springer served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Responsys, Inc., a marketing software company that was acquired by Oracle Corp. in 2014.

Prior to joining Responsys, Inc., Springer served as the Managing Director of Modem Media, Inc., a marketing strategy and services firm, the Chief Executive Officer of Telleo, Inc., an internet services company, and Chief Marketing Officer of NextCard, Inc., a consumer credit company.

Springer currently serves on the boards of directors of UI Path, a software company, and the Boys and Girls Club of San Francisco.

Springer previously served on the board of directors of YuMe Inc., a digital advertising company.

Springer holds a B.A. in Mathematics and Economics from Occidental College and an M.B.A. from Harvard University.
