As announced by Trean Insurance Group Inc. in a news release on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, Andrew M. (Andy) O’Brien leaves his post as chief executive officer at the provider of products to the specialty insurance market, after around 26 years in the role, effective July 1, 2022.

It is the end of an era.

Andy O’Brien’s duties as CEO will be taken over by Julie A. Baron, currently President and Chief Operating Officer at Trean Insurance Group Inc.

Andy O’Brien’s departure from the CEO post is explained as follows. O’Brien said: “As for me, I have reached the age when it is time for someone else to take on the CEO role.”

“Trean Insurance Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: TIG) (“Trean” or the “Company”), a leading provider of products and services to the specialty insurance market, announced today that its Board of Directors has appointed current CEO Andrew O’Brien as Executive Chairman of the Board and appointed current President and Chief Operating Officer Julie Baron as CEO, both effective July 1, 2022. Ms. Baron will also join the Board of Directors of Trean effective July 1, 2022,” Trean Insurance said.

Share price decline since March 2021

The announcement follows a decline in Trean Insurance Group Inc.’s share price of 58% since March 2021.

In the position of CEO since 1996

Andy O’Brien became CEO of the Company in 1996.

O’Brien has served as the Company’s President and Chief Executive Officer, and as one of the Company’s directors, since he founded the Company in 1996.

Prior to founding the Company, O’Brien served as a General Partner, Executive Vice President and director of E.W. Blanch Company.

O’Brien has also served as a director of the Health Care Insurance Facility, First Dakota Indemnity Company and SAFE, Inc., a holding company for an accident and health insurer.

O’Brien holds a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Minnesota, a J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School and a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter designation.
