Startek CEO Aparup Sengupta leaves

(exechange) — Greenwood Village, Colorado & Mumbai, India, February 1, 2022 — Aparup Sengupta, chief executive of Startek, leaves. As announced by StarTek Inc. in a news release and in a regulatory filing published on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, Aparup Sengupta has left his post as chief executive officer at the customer experience (CX) solutions provider, after about two years in the role, effective January 27, 2022.

Aparup Sengupta’s duties as CEO will be taken over by Bharat Rao, most recently president at StarTek Inc.

Aparup Sengupta’s move coincides with a management shake-up also involving the position of Head of Business Transformation.

“Further strengthen Startek senior leadership”

Startek did not give an explicit reason for Aparup Sengupta’s departure from the CEO post. Startek said: “Startek® (NYSE: SRT), a global customer experience (CX) solutions provider, today announced the appointments of Bharat Rao as Global CEO and Ronald Gillette as Strategic Advisor and Head of Business Transformation. These new appointments further strengthen Startek senior leadership and the company’s position as a leader in digital-first CX.”

Precise information regarding Aparup Sengupta’s future plans was not immediately available.

“Steps down/resigned”

Startek said: “Rao takes on the Global CEO role as Aparup Sengupta steps down as Global CEO and Executive Chairman. Sengupta will remain a Director on the Startek Board.”

Startek further said: “Mr. Rao succeeds Aparup Sengupta, who resigned as the Chief Executive Officer and as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Company, effective as January 27, 2022.”

Share price decline since January 2020

The announcement follows a decline in StarTek Inc.’s share price of 37% since January 2020. January 2020 is the month in which Sengupta’s tenure as CEO began.

Aparup Sengupta became CEO of the Company in 2020.

Sengupta is the Operating Partner of Capital Square Partners Management Pte Ltd. (“CSP”) and is on the board of Aegis.

Previously, he was the Executive Chairman of The Minacs Group (“Minacs”), a business solutions company, from 2014.

Prior to joining Minacs, Sengupta was the Global CEO and Managing Director at Aegis from 2005 to 2012.

Sengupta holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, formally known as the Bengal Engineering and Science University.

Sengupta was appointed to serve as the Chief Executive Officer of the Company effective as of January 15, 2020.
