(exechange) — Juno Beach, Florida, January 25, 2022 — Jim Robo, chief executive of NextEra, leaves his position. As announced by NextEra Energy Inc. in a news release and in a regulatory filing published on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, James L. (Jim) Robo leaves his post as chief executive officer at the energy company, after almost 10 years in the role, effective March 1, 2022.

Jim Robo’s duties as CEO will be taken over by John W. Ketchum, currently President and Chief Executive Officer at NextEra Energy Resources, LLC (NEER).

Jim Robo’s move coincides with a management shake-up also involving the positions of chairman, Florida Power & Light Company; president and CEO, NextEra Energy Resources, LLC; and executive vice president, finance and CFO, NextEra Energy, Inc.

“Planned leadership succession process”

The management change is explained as follows. NextEra said: “As part of a planned leadership succession process, the board of directors of NextEra Energy, Inc. (NYSE: NEE) today announced a series of senior leadership appointments, effective March 1, 2022, aimed at paving the way for the next generation of company leadership.”

Robo will remain as executive chairman at NextEra

“Jim Robo, the current chairman and CEO, will become executive chairman for a transition period, and it is anticipated that Mr. Ketchum will also be appointed to the company’s board of directors effective March 1,” NextEra said.

“Cease”

NextEra said: “Mr. Robo notified the Board of Directors of NEE (the “Board”) that he intends to cease his current service as President and Chief Executive Officer effective on March 1, 2022.”

Share price increase since January 2017

The announcement follows an increase in NextEra Energy Inc.’s share price of 176% since January 2017.

In the position of CEO since 2012

Jim Robo became CEO of the Company in 2012.

Robo, NextEra Energy’s chairman, president and chief executive officer, previously served as the Company’s vice president of corporate development and strategy, as president of NextEra Energy’s competitive energy subsidiary, NextEra Energy Resources, and as the Company’s chief operating officer.

Prior to joining NextEra Energy, Robo was president and chief executive officer of a major division of General Electric Capital Corporation, a subsidiary of General Electric Company (“GE”).

He also served as chairman and CEO of GE Mexico and was a member of the GE corporate development team.

Prior to joining GE, he was vice president of Strategic Planning Associates, a management consulting firm.

Robo has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard College and a MBA from Harvard Business School.
