(exechange) — Huntington Beach, California, July 6, 2021 — This news came shortly after Independence Day. Greg Trojan, chief executive of BJ’s Restaurants, leaves. As announced by BJ’s Restaurants Inc. in a news release and in a regulatory filing published on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, Gregory A. (Greg) Trojan leaves his post as chief executive officer at the restaurant chain after almost nine years in the role, effective September 1, 2021.

Greg Trojan’s duties as CEO will be taken over by Gregory S. (Greg) Levin, currently President and Chief Financial Officer at BJ’s Restaurants Inc.

BJ’s Restaurants did not give an explicit reason for Greg Trojan’s departure from the CEO post. BJ’s Restaurants said: “In accordance with the terms of his employment agreement, Mr. Trojan gave notice of his intention not to renew his employment on June 30, 2021.”

Precise information regarding Greg Trojan’s future plans was not immediately available.

“Retire”

BJ’s Restaurants said: “Chief Executive Officer, Gregory A. Trojan, will retire effective September 1, 2021, at which time current President and Chief Financial Officer, Gregory S. Levin, will be appointed President and Chief Executive Officer.”

Share price decline since July 2018

The announcement follows a decline in BJ’s Restaurants Inc.’s share price of 21% since July 2018.

Gerald W. Deitchle has been a member of the Company’s Board of Directors since November 2004 and has served as the Company’s Chairman of the Board since June 2008. He served as the Company’s President from February 2005 until December 2012 and as the Company’s Chief Executive Officer from February 2005 until his retirement in February 2013.

In the position of CEO since 2013

Greg Trojan became CEO of the Company in 2013.

Trojan is expected to continue to serve on the Company’s Board of Directors following his retirement, and Levin is expected to be appointed to the Board of Directors.

Greg Trojan has served as the Company’s Chief Executive Officer since February 2013, and as a member of the Company’s Board of Directors since December 2012.

He served as the Company’s President from December 2012 until January 2018.

Prior to joining the Company, Trojan was employed by Guitar Center, Inc., a leading retailer of musical instrument products, where he served as President, Chief Executive Officer and Director from November 2010 to November 2012 and as President, Chief Operating Officer and Director from October 2007 to November 2010.

From 1998 to 2006, Trojan served as Chief Executive Officer of House of Blues Entertainment, Inc., an operator of restaurant and music venues, concerts and media properties, having served as President from 1996 to 1998.

Prior to that, he held various positions with PepsiCo, Inc. from 1990 to 1996, including service as Chief Executive Officer of California Pizza Kitchen, Inc. when it was owned by PepsiCo.

Earlier in his career, Trojan was a consultant at Bain & Company, the Wharton Small Business Development Center and Arthur Andersen & Company.

Trojan served on the Board of Directors of Oakley, Inc. from June 2005 to November 2007, and Domino’s Pizza, Inc. (NYSE: DPZ) from March 2010 to November 2017.
