As announced by Republic Services Inc. in a news release and in a regulatory filing published on Tuesday, March 30, 2021, Donald W. (Don) Slager leaves his post as chief executive officer at the provider of non-hazardous solid waste collection after almost 11 years in the role, effective June 25, 2021.

Don Slager’s duties as CEO will be taken over by Jon Vander Ark, currently President of Republic Services Inc.

“Multi-year CEO succession planning process”

Don Slager’s departure from the CEO post is explained as follows. Republic Services said: “The move marks the conclusion of a thoughtful and comprehensive, multi-year CEO succession planning process.”

Precise information regarding Don Slager’s future plans was not immediately available.

“Retire”

Republic Services said: “Donald W. Slager has provided his notice of intent to retire from the Company after serving as its Chief Executive Officer for more than a decade and serving as Chief Operating Officer for nearly a decade prior.”

Republic Services further said: “On March 26, 2021, Donald W. Slager, the Chief Executive Officer of Republic Services, Inc. (the “Company”), gave his one-year notice of his intent to retire from the Company pursuant to his employment agreement. The Board of Directors (the “Board”) of the Company accepted the notice of retirement from Mr. Slager and waived the one-year notice requirement.”

Share price increase since January 2011

The announcement follows an increase in Republic Services Inc.’s share price of 237% since January 2011. January 2011 is the month in which Slager’s tenure as CEO began.

Manny Kadre serves as Republic Services Inc.’s Chairman.

Manuel Kadre joined Republic’s board of directors in June 2014, and became chairman of the board in March 2017.

Don Slager became CEO of the Company in 2011.

Slager will serve in a consulting capacity for the remainder of 2021 to complete this orderly and seamless transition.

Donald W. Slager serves as the Company’s Chief Executive Officer, a position he has held since January 2011.

He previously held the role of President and Chief Executive Officer from January 2011 to May 2019, and served as the Company’s President and Chief Operating Officer from the Allied Waste Industries, Inc. (Allied) acquisition in December 2008 until January 2011.

Prior to the Allied acquisition, Slager worked for Allied from 1992 through 2008 and served in various management positions, including President and Chief Operating Officer from 2004 through 2008, and Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer from 2003 to 2004.

From 2001 to 2003, Slager served as Senior Vice President, Operations.

Slager held various management positions at Allied from 1992 to 2003, and was previously General Manager at National Waste Services, where he served in various management positions since 1985.

Slager has over 35 years of experience in the solid waste industry.

Slager has been a member of the Company’s Board of Directors since June 24, 2010.
