(exechange) — Dothan, Alabama, March 2, 2021 — Charles Owens, chief executive of Construction Partners, leaves his position. As announced by Construction Partners Inc. in a news release and in a regulatory filing published on Tuesday, March 2, 2021, Charles E. Owens leaves his post as chief executive officer at the civil infrastructure company after around 20 years in the role, effective March 31, 2021.

It is the end of an era.

Charles Owens’s duties as CEO will be taken over by Fred J. (Jule) Smith, currently Chief Operating Officer of Construction Partners Inc.

Charles Owens’s departure from the CEO post is explained as follows. Ned Fleming, the Company’s Executive Chairman, said: “This transition is an important milestone for Construction Partners, representing our continued growth as a company and as an organization that values human capital development and succession.”

Owens will remain as Vice Chairman at Construction Partners

“Charles E. Owens, the Company’s current President and Chief Executive Officer, will transition to the role of Vice Chairman of the board of directors,” Construction Partners said.

Share price increase since March 2020

The announcement follows an increase in Construction Partners Inc.’s share price of 73% since March 2020.

Fleming is a founder of Construction Partners and has served as Executive Chairman since the Company’s inception.

In the position of CEO since 2001

Charles Owens became CEO of the Company in 2001.

As Vice Chairman, Owens will remain active in the Company, providing strategic advice and continuing to participate in the Company’s growth and acquisition efforts.

Charles E. Owens is one of the founders of the Company and has served as the Company’s President and Chief Executive Officer since the Company’s inception.

He has been a member of the Board since 2001 and has overseen the successful acquisition and integration of 25 companies in this role.

From 1990 until its sale in 1999, Owens was President and Chief Executive Officer of Superfos Construction U.S., Inc. (“Superfos”), the North American operation of Superfos a/s, a publicly held Danish company.

During his tenure at Superfos, he oversaw the successful acquisition and integration of approximately 35 companies, leading Superfos to become one of the largest highway construction companies in the United States.

Prior to 1990, Owens was President of Couch Construction, Inc., a subsidiary of Superfos headquartered in Dothan, Alabama.

Owens received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Troy University.
