(exechange) — Greenwood Village, Colorado, August 31, 2020 — Bret Griess, chief executive of CSG, leaves his position. As announced by CSG Systems International Inc. in a news release and in a regulatory filing published on Monday, August 31, 2020, Bret C. Griess leaves his post as chief executive officer at the provider of Business Support Systems software after about five years in the role, effective December 30, 2020.

Griess leaves the company effective March 31, 2021.

Bret Griess’s duties as CEO will be taken over by Brian A. Shepherd, currently executive vice president and group president of CSG Systems International Inc.

“He thrives in a dynamic environment”

CSG did not give an explicit reason for Bret Griess’s departure from the CEO post. Don Reed, chairman of the Board of Directors, said: “Brian has a proven record of driving profitable revenue growth by creating a vision and strategy that brings teams together.  At CSG, he has demonstrated that he thrives in a dynamic environment and has helped create a strong culture that is values-based and results focused.   He is the right person to lead CSG into its next phase of growth.”

Precise information regarding Bret Griess’s future plans was not immediately available.

“Step down/resign”

CSG said: “Bret Griess, president and chief executive officer of the company has shared his plans to step down at the end of the year, following nearly 25 years of service with the company.”

CSG further said: “Effective December 30, 2020, Bret C. Griess, CSG’s current President and Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”), will step down as President and CEO of the Company and resign from CSG’s Board.  Mr. Griess will remain as a non-executive employee of the Company to assist with the transition of his duties through March 31, 2021, at which time he will resign from the Company.”

Share price decline

The announcement follows a decline in CSG Systems International Inc.’s share price of 15% since August 2019.

Don Reed serves as CSG Systems International Inc.’s Chairman.

Reed was elected to the Board in May 2005 and has served as CSG’s non-executive Chairman of the Board since January 2010.

In the position of CEO since 2016

Bret Griess became CEO of the Company in 2016.

Griess currently serves as the Company’s President and CEO.

He joined the Company in 1996 and held a variety of positions in Operations and Information Technology, until being appointed Executive Vice President of Operations in February 2009, Chief Operations Officer in March 2011, and President in June 2015.

In January 2016, Griess was appointed President and CEO and a member of the Company’s Board.

Griess holds an M.A. degree in Management and a B.S. degree in Management from Bellevue University in Nebraska, and an A.A.S. degree from the Community College of the Air Force.
