(exechange) — Plano, Texas, August 3, 2020 — Yung Kim, chief executive of Dasan Zhone, leaves. As announced by Dasan Zhone Solutions Inc. in a news release and in a regulatory filing published on Monday, August 3, 2020, Il Yung Kim has left his post as chief executive officer at the provider of telecommunications networking equipment after less than four years in the role, effective July 31, 2020.

Yung Kim’s duties as CEO will be taken over by Charlie Vogt, most recently chief executive officer of ATX Networks.

The fact that Yung Kim’s successor is brought in from outside suggests that the board may seek to stimulate change with fresh ideas and new initiatives.

No reason given

In the announcement, Dasan Zhone did not explicitly explain the reason for Yung Kim’s move.

Precise information regarding Yung Kim’s future plans was not immediately available.

Dasan Zhone said: “Dasan Zhone Solutions, Inc. (NSDQ: DZSI or “DZS”), a leading enabler of the emerging hyper-connected, hyper-broadband world, today announced it has appointed Charlie Vogt as president, CEO and director effective August 1. Vogt, a distinguished information technology and communications executive, joins DZS from ATX Networks, where he remains a member of the board. He succeeds Yung Kim, who has retired after a successful 40-year international telecommunications career and nearly four years at the helm of DZS.”

Dasan Zhone further said: “In connection with Mr. Vogt’s appointment, Il Yung Kim ceased to serve as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Company and as a member of the Board effective July 31, 2020.”

Share price decline

The announcement follows a decline in Dasan Zhone Solutions Inc.’s share price of 21% since July 2019.

In the position of CEO since 2016

Yung Kim became CEO of the Company in 2016.

Il Yung Kim joined DZS as a director and Co-Chief Executive Officer of DZS in connection with the Merger on September 9, 2016.

Kim assumed his current role of director, President and Chief Executive Officer on September 11, 2017.

In addition, he served as acting or interim Chief Financial Officer from September 11, 2017 to December 1, 2017 and from August 26, 2019 to December 1, 2019.

Prior to joining DZS, Kim served as a consultant to DNI, the Company’s majority stockholder and parent company, in connection with the Merger.

From September 2014 to August 2016, Kim served as Chief Executive Officer of TukTak in Korea, an online startup company, which enables people with creative talents to collaborate and produce goods and services online.

From December 2014 to August 2016, Kim also served as a strategic advisor for InMobi, a global mobile advertising platform provider.

Previously, Kim held various positions with Korea Telecom, including as President and executive board member from 2013 to January 2014, and as Chief Strategy Officer from 2010 to 2013.

Kim commenced his career with British Telecom in 1982, where he held various senior positions including Vice President of Technology and Innovation and Programme Director and Head of Technology and Investment.

Kim holds a B.S. (with Honors) in Electronic Engineering and an M.S. Degree in Microwave and Modern Optics from University College, University of London.
