Ferriola leaves his post as Chief Executive Officer at the largest U.S. steelmaker after seven years in the role, effective December 31, 2019.

John Ferriola’s duties as CEO will be taken over by Leon J. Topalian, most recently Executive Vice President of Nucor Corporation.

John Ferriola’s departure from the CEO post is explained as follows. Nucor said: “Nucor Corporation (NYSE: NUE) announced today that John J. Ferriola, 67, will retire as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) on December 31, 2019 and that the Board of Directors elected Leon J. Topalian, 51, to be President and Chief Operating Officer, effective September 5, 2019, and to succeed Mr. Ferriola as CEO on January 1, 2020, in connection with Nucor’s planned succession process.”

John Ferriola became CEO of the Company in January 2013.

Ferriola has served as Chairman of Nucor since January 2014 and Chief Executive Officer and President of Nucor since January 2013.

He has also served on the board of directors and as Chairman of the Steel Manufacturers Association.

With a degree in electrical engineering, Ferriola worked in various operating and management roles in the steel industry before joining Nucor.
