As announced by Atmos Energy Corp. in a news release and in a regulatory filing published on Wednesday, August 7, 2019, Michael E. (Mike) Haefner leaves his post as Chief Executive Officer at the natural-gas-only distributor after about two years in the role, effective September 30, 2019.
Mike Haefner’s duties as CEO will be taken over by J.Kevin Akers, currently Executive Vice President of Atmos Energy Corporation.
Mike Haefner’s departure from the CEO post is explained as follows. Atmos Energy said: “Haefner has announced his intention to step down from his positions as President and Chief Executive Officer effective September 30, 2019 to focus on a recent health issue. He will retire January 1, 2020 from the Company and the Board.”
Atmos Energy said: “Michael E. Haefner has announced his intention to step down from the positions of President and Chief Executive Officer effective September 30, 2019 due to health considerations.”
Share price increase since October 2017
The announcement follows an increase in Atmos Energy Corporation’s share price of 24% since October 2017.

Haefner served previously as Senior Vice President, Human Resources for Sabre Holdings Corporation.
He has over a 30-year work history with broad experience in dynamic industries and over half of his career has been in senior management and critical leadership positions.
