As announced by BMW AG in an ad-hoc statement and in a news release on Friday, July 5, 2019, Harald Krüger leaves his post as Chief Executive Officer at the German luxury carmaker after about four years in the role.

Until a decision has been made, Harald Krüger will hold his position as Chairman of the Board of Management.

“To pursue new professional endeavours”

Harald Krüger’s departure from the CEO post is explained as follows. Krüger said: “After more than ten years in the Board of Management, more than four of which as the CEO of the BMW Group, I would like to pursue new professional endeavours and leverage my diverse international experience for new projects and ventures.”

Precise information regarding Harald Krüger’s future plans was not immediately available.

“He will not seek a second term of office”

BMW said: “The Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, Harald Krüger, gave notice today that he will not seek a second term of office.”

BMW further said: “The Chairman of the Board of Management, Harald Krüger, today informed the Chairman of the Supervisory Board that he will not seek another term of office beyond his current term running until 30 April 2020.”

Share price decline

The announcement follows a decline in Bayerische Motoren Werke Aktiengesellschaft’s share price of 39 percent since May 2015.
