(exechange) — Lake Forest, California, June 06, 2017 — Paul Murphy, chief executive of Del Taco, leaves. It is a change at short notice. As announced by Del Taco Restaurants, Inc. in a news release on Tuesday, June 06, 2017, Paul J.B. Murphy leaves the post as Chief Executive Officer at the restaurant company in a surprising move after around eight years on the job, effective July 07, 2017.

Murphy’s duties are taken over by John Cappasola, currently President and Chief Brand Officer at Del Taco Restaurants, Inc.

The move is a generational change as well. John Cappasola is about 20 years younger than Paul Murphy.

No reason given

In the announcement, Del Taco did not explicitly explain the reason for Murphy’s imminent move, leaving room for speculation.

Precise information about the future plans of Murphy was not immediately available.

“Resign”

Del Taco said: “President and Chief Brand Officer John D. Cappasola, Jr. has been named as Chief Executive Officer, to succeed Paul J.B. Murphy, III.”

Del Taco further said: “As part of the planned succession, Mr. Murphy has notified the Company that he plans to relocate permanently to Denver, CO and will resign on July 7, 2017, at which time Mr. Cappasola will fully assume his new position as Chief Executive Officer and director.”

Lawrence F. Levy has served as chairman of the Company’s Board of Directors since November 19, 2013.

On the job as CEO since 2009

Paul J.B. Murphy, III has served as a director and as the Company’s Chief Executive Officer since the consummation of the Business Combination.

Murphy has been DTH’s Chief Executive Officer since February 2009.

From February 2009 to January 2017, Murphy held the position of President.

From 1996 to 2008, Murphy held various roles with Einstein Noah Restaurant Group, Inc.

Murphy originally joined Einstein as Senior Vice President, Operations in 1997.

He was promoted to Executive Vice President, Operations in 1998, and to Chief Operating Officer in 2002.

In 2003, he was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer.

Murphy holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Religious Studies from Washington & Lee University.

Murphy will remain with the Company into July to ensure a seamless and orderly transition of leadership and responsibilities.
