(exechange) — Mission Viejo, California, February 21, 2019 — Christopher Christensen, chief executive of Ensign, leaves the position. As announced by Ensign Group Inc. in a news release and in a regulatory filing published on Thursday, February 21, 2019, Christopher R. Christensen leaves his post as chief executive officer at the nursing care facilities company after about 13 years in the role, effective May 30, 2019.
It is the end of an era.
Among the 3,000 largest publicly held companies incorporated in the U.S. based on market capitalization, the average tenure of the CEOs who departed over the past 12 months was 8.2 years, according to data compiled by exechange. Only 31 percent of the CEOs who departed over the past 12 months left the position after more than 10 years.
Christopher Christensen’s duties will be taken over by Barry R. Port, currently chief operating officer of Ensign Services, Inc.
Christopher Christensen’s move is part of a management shake-up also involving the positions of chief operating officer; and chief investment officer.

The announcement follows an increase in The Ensign Group, Inc.’s share price of 209 percent since February 2017.
