(exechange) — Sydney, Australia, July 26, 2018 — Nicholas Moore, chief executive of Macquarie, hands over the reins. As announced by Macquarie Group Limited in a news release on Thursday, July 26, 2018, Nicholas William Moore leaves his post as Chief Executive Officer at the asset management company after almost 11 years in the role, effective November 30, 2018.
It is the end of an era.
Moore’s duties will be taken over by Shemara Wikramanayake, currently Group Head of Asset Management of Macquarie Group Limited.
Wikramanayake becomes the group’s first female CEO.
“I leave Macquarie in a strong position and in safe hands”
A reason for Moore’s departure from the CEO post was not explicitly given. Moore said: “I have worked with Shemara for more than 30 years and I am reassured in deciding to retire later this year that I leave Macquarie in a strong position and in safe hands.”
Precise information about Moore’s future plans was not immediately available.
Macquarie said: “Macquarie Group … Chairman, Peter Warne, today announced Nicholas Moore’s decision to retire as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Macquarie Group and the Board’s decision to appoint Shemara Wikramanayake, currently Group Head of Macquarie Asset Management, in his place.”
Macquarie further said: “Mr Moore will retire and step down from the Boards of Macquarie Group Limited and Macquarie Bank Limited effective 30 November 2018, shortly after delivering the Group’s results for 1H19 and completing the usual investor roadshow alongside Ms Wikramanayake. Ms Wikramanayake will be appointed to the Boards of Macquarie Group Limited and Macquarie Bank Limited.”

Appointed Chief Executive Officer in 2008, he is now leading the continued global growth of Macquarie Group.
Moore is Chairman of Screen Australia, Sydney Opera House Trust and the University of NSW Business School Advisory Council, and a Director of the Centre for Independent Studies.
