Audi CEO Rupert Stadler leaves post abruptly

(exechange) — Ingolstadt, Germany, June 19, 2018 — Rupert Stadler, chief executive of Audi, leaves the position. It is an abrupt change. As announced by Audi AG in a news release on Tuesday, June 19, 2018, Rupert Stadler leaves his post as Chief Executive Officer at the German automobile manufacturer after around 11 years in the role, effective immediately.

Stadler’s move comes less than two months after Herbert Diess took over as Chairman of Audi AG.

Stadler’s duties will be taken over in the interim by Abraham (Bram) Schot, currently Member of the Board of Management with responsibility for Sales and Marketing of Audi AG.

Audi is a member of the Volkswagen Group.

“Taken into custody”

Stadler’s sudden departure from the CEO post is explained as follows. Audi said: “As previously reported, Audi CEO Rupert Stadler was taken into custody at the request of the Munich II Public Prosecutor’s Office on June 18.”

“Release him”

Audi said: “Stadler has requested that the Supervisory Board release him from his position in the Board of Management of Audi AG and in the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG. The Supervisory Boards of Volkswagen and Audi have complied with Stadler’s request to release him from his duties. This release applies temporarily, until the circumstances that led to his arrest have been clarified.”

Chaired by Herbert Diess

Audi AG is chaired by Herbert Diess.

Herbert Diess was appointed to the Supervisory Board of Audi AG on May 7, 2018, and elected Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Audi AG on May 8, 2018.

In the position of CEO since 2007

Rupert Stadler was born on March 17, 1963 in Titting (Bavaria).

Stadler studied Business Management, majoring in Corporate Planning/Controllership and Finance, Banking and Investment, at Augsburg University of Applied Sciences.

After graduating in Business Management, Stadler started his career at Philips Kommunikation Industrie AG in Nuremberg.

In 1990 Stadler joined Audi AG, Ingolstadt, where he assumed various controlling tasks in the Sales and Marketing area.

Stadler switched to Volkswagen-Audi España, S.A., Barcelona, as Commercial Director in 1994.

In that capacity, he was responsible for Controllership, Accounts, Personnel and Organisation.

From 1997 Stadler was Head of the Board of Management’s Office for the Volkswagen Group, and additionally Head of Group Product Planning from January 2002.

Rupert Stadler became Audi AG Board Member with effect from January 1, 2003.

From April 1, 2003 to August 31, 2007 Stadler was responsible for the Finance and Organisation Division.

Rupert Stadler became Chairman of the Board of Management of Audi AG on January 1, 2007.

Rupert Stadler joined the Board of Management of Volkswagen on January 1, 2010 in his capacity as Chairman of the Board of Management of Audi AG.

In November 2012 Rupert Stadler was appointed an honorary professor for Business Administration by the University of St. Gallen.
